..As Umahi prepares to defect to APC
..Ohanaeze backs gov., others’ decision
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted there have been no discussions on the zoning of candidates in the 2023 general elections.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this while speaking on a television programme yesterday, while reacting to reports that the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, was planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It has been reported that Umahi believes that the APC would protect the interest of the South-East in the 2023 elections. But Ologbondiyan admits the concerns raised by the Governor as it relates to the fate of the South-East in the next presidential election were genuine.

He, however, insisted that the party has not started discussions on the zoning of candidates in the 2023 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the apex Igbo youth socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, worldwide has claimed that three governors in the South East will lead a mass defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP if the party fails to be open to zoning for the 2023 presidency.
OYC said this in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its President-General; Comrade Obinna Achionye Deputy President General and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary-General, where it also described the proposed emergence meetings of PDP Board of Trustees, (BoT), scheduled for November 18 and the party’s National Executive Council meeting coming up on November 19 2020 as the last opportunity for the party to revert back to zoning as enshrined in its constitution.
The OYC said that the party zoning formula favours South-East for presidency come 2023. The Igbo Youth said that they will not relent in supporting any other Southeast Governor that would decamp from the PDP or any other political party to join the APC.
